Interior Design Basics for Surface Pattern Designers

PRESENTING TO THE TEXTILE DESIGN LAB

I’m honored to be presenting to the Textile Design Lab this month during their Home Interiors month. My first presentation will be on October 4th and I’ll be talking about the basics of interior design for surface pattern designers. I have been an interior designer for almost 30 years, so I have a lot of good info to share! I get into some detail, but it’s important to understand how interior designers work if you want to design textiles for the home market. I discuss collections, the importance of main patterns, and offer tips for surface designers.

On the left is a small chest stacked with books. On the right is a vase of tulips. Below the image is a light blue box with white text "Interior Design Basics for Surface Pattern Designers"

My second presentation will be on October 12th and will be all about murals and wallpaper. This market has changed so much over the years and the possibilities are endless. I’ll share what I know about murals and wallpaper, give some technical tips, and talk about what sells well.

If you’re a member of the Textile Design Lab these talks will be free of charge. If you’re not a member, what are you waiting for? The TDL is full of amazing content and is always adding more. I hope to see you there!
